Bio
My name is Sutton Coffey, and I am from Johnson City, Tennessee. I am currently earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with an undecided minor in visual arts at The Ohio State University. I began my formal training in dance at the age of thirteen at Watt's Dance Studio. There, I studied tap, jazz, ballet, and acrobatics under Ann Watts, Chrissann Tull, Jaime Lipford, Caleb Tull, and Annalee Tull. In addition to my training, I was a part of the showcase jazz dance group from 2013 - 2016.
During that time, I learned how to perform in front of many people, and because I was shy, I discovered dance was an outlet to remedy my naturally sheepish nature. Before my interest in dance became a career, I was fixated on becoming an illustrator and visual artist. However, I have not neglected this part of my life, and I plan to apply my artistic prowess to my dance career as a costume designer. In 2013, I went to Middle Tennessee State University for a summer visual arts college program, and I became more immersed and inspired by the art world.
Since my arrival to Columbus as a dance student, I have already gathered a great deal of resources that will help me be successful in my field of study and what I need to work on or be wary of. So far, I have been cast for spots in OSU MFA Anna Massey's piece, Offering (2017), and Dance Brazil next spring led by Daniel Roberts. In my next three years at OSU, I am interested in performance, education, multi-media choreography, and costume design.
